Creating Custom Fields
Custom fields provide flexibility to store supplier-specific or business-specific product data that should not be treated as a standardised attribute. They are commonly used for additional specifications, flags, modifiers and supporting content.
Creating a custom field defines the structure of the data but does not automatically apply it to products. Fields should be created first, then activated and populated as needed.
Xada supports creating custom fields in a controlled way so data remains consistent and manageable at scale.
When to Create a Custom Field
Create a custom field when you need to store:
- Additional product specifications
- Setup fees or hidden cost modifiers
- URLs such as size charts or compliance documents
- Integration flags required by downstream systems
Managing Existing Custom Fields

From the Custom Fields table, you can:
- Activate or deactivate custom fields
- Edit existing custom fields
- Filter and reorder the table based on attributes such as ID, Name, Type, etc.
These tools make it easier to organise and manage your custom fields as your catalogue grows.
Creating a Custom Field
To create a custom field:
- Go to Xada Dashboard => Custom Fields
- Select Create Custom Field
- Name: Enter a clear and descriptive name for the custom field
- Type: Select one of the following options:
- Plain Text: Use this option to store unformatted text
- Rich Text: Use this option if you want to store formatted content such as font styles, colours, images, links, or other rich elements
- Status: Choose whether the custom field should be Active or Inactive
After entering the required information, click Create. The new custom field will then appear in the Custom Fields table and can be used within your products.
Naming Considerations
Custom field names should:
- Clearly describe their purpose
- Avoid supplier-specific language where possible
- Remain stable over time to support rules and integrations

Assigning Custom Fields
After a custom field has been created, it can be added to a product manually in the Product Edit page or it can be assigned by a rule. The rule will also allow you to add a value to your custom field. For practical uses for assigning custom fields by Rules view the article below:
