Assigning Additions to Options Using Rules
Please note that this feature may not be available depending on your Xada subscription.
Xada allows you to assign decoration additions to product options at scale using rules. This removes the need to manage additions on individual products. Once configured, a single rule can automatically apply decoration logic across large sections of your catalogue.
Step 1 – Create an Addition Template
Before assigning additions via rules, you must first create an addition template. This template will be reused across products.
To create an addition:
- Go to the Additions page from the menu
- Click Create Addition
- Complete the following fields:
- Name
- Internal identifier used within Xada
- Use a clear and unique name
- Description
- Displayed on your storefront
- Currency
- Enter the currency (e.g. AUD)
- Setup Cost
- Any setup cost associated with the addition
- File Upload
- Enable if customers should upload artwork/files
- Price Breaks
- Enter quantity and pricing tiers as needed
- Unused fields can be left blank
- Click Create

Step 2 – Create a Rule to Assign Additions
Once your addition template is ready, you can create a rule to assign it to product options in bulk.
- Go to the Rules page
- Click Create Rule
- Define your conditions
Common approaches include:
- Assign additions based on supplier
- Assign additions based on category
- Exclude unsuitable categories (e.g. footwear or bags)
- Apply different additions to different product types
Example use case:
- Apply embroidery to all apparel products
- Exclude embroidery from categories where it is not suitable

In the actions:
- Select Assign Addition from the actions dropdown list
- Choose the addition you created
It is strongly recommended to set:
- When option is = Active
This ensures additions are only assigned to active options, preventing unnecessary or incorrect assignments.
Make sure your product options are active before running the rule. Refer to the related articles below for more details.
Important Notes
- Additions are set to Active by default when first assigned to an option
- If an addition is later deactivated (either manually or via another rule), running the assignment rule again will not reactivate it
This behaviour ensures that manual or rule-based overrides are respected.
