How to create categories
Opening the Create Category page
- In the left‑hand menu, click Categories.
- On the Categories page, click the Create Category button in the top‑right corner.
- You’ll see the Create category screen with the Category Details form.
Choosing where the category sits
To create a top‑level category
To create a sub‑category
- Open the Parent Category dropdown.
- Search or scroll to find the category you want this one to sit under.
- Select that parent.
Filling in the main details
Name
- Enter a clear, descriptive name.
- This is what users and customers will see.
- Certain special characters, such as forward slash "/", are not allowed.
Sort Order
- Use a number to control where this category appears relative to its siblings.
- Lower numbers usually appear first.
Image URL (optional)
- Paste a link to an image you want to use for this category, if your storefront supports category images.

Description (optional)
- Use the editor to add a description that explains what belongs in this category.
- This can help both internal users and, depending on your setup, visitors on your site.
- Further down the form (depending on your Xada subscription) you may also see:
- Active/Inactive switch: whether the category is currently in use.
- Favourite: whether to mark it as a favourite for easier filtering.
- Navigation visibility: whether it should appear in your storefront navigation.
- Multi‑channel options: where you can set how this category behaves per channel if your account uses multiple channels.
Saving and managing your new category
- Once you’ve completed the fields, click the Save button at the bottom of the form.
- After saving, your new category will appear:
- In the main Categories list.
- In the Category Structure view, under the parent you selected (or at the top level if no parent was chosen).
